Our Urban Future: How national and local governments can work together for prosperous, climate-safe cities
Zero-carbon cities offer a powerful lever to secure economic prosperity and boost living standards across a country, all while tackling the climate crisis. This is what our urban future could look like, but realising this opportunity requires strong action and leadership from national governments as well as city governments, and meaningful partnerships between different tiers of government. The new flagship report from the Coalition for Urban Transitions, Climate Emergency, Urban Opportunity, outlines the immense social, economic and environmental benefits of creating compact, connected and clean cities with net-zero emissions, and presents a clear six-part action plan for national governments around the world. The report is underpinned by a three-year research effort by 50 organisations brought together by the Coalition for Urban Transitions.
At this event, part of the C40 World Mayors Summit, we will hear perspectives from national and city governments leading the way on climate action in cities, as well as other critical voices working on urban development globally. The event will present the key findings of the Climate Emergency, Urban Opportunity Report and the implications for both national and city governments. It will look at the key enabling roles for national governments and the need for collaboration between national and local governments in order to deliver prosperous, climate-safe cities that work for everyone.
